Heavy Metals Kit

A focused, affordable first look at the heavy metals in your tap or well water. One bottle, one rule — don't rinse it.

$174/ kit
What it tests for
  • 13 heavy metals, including Lead (Pb), Arsenic (As), Copper (Cu), Chromium (Cr), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Cadmium (Cd), Nickel (Ni), Selenium (Se), Barium (Ba), Antimony (Sb) and Mercury (Hg)
Why it matters

Heavy metals are invisible, tasteless, and odorless. Lead has no safe level of exposure: in children it lowers IQ, harms attention and behavior, and the damage is permanent. Arsenic is a known human carcinogen linked to bladder, lung, and skin cancers and to cardiovascular disease.

Copper and chromium leach from plumbing and fittings; chronic copper exposure causes gastrointestinal distress and, at high levels, liver and kidney damage. Iron and manganese are aesthetic and health flags - manganese in drinking water is increasingly linked to neurological effects in infants.

How to collect your sample

Take the sample from a cold, unfiltered tap. Flush the line 2-3 minutes first. Do NOT rinse the bottle - it is acid-preserved. Fill to within 1-2 inches of the top, cap, chill on the gel pack, and ship the same day you collect. Holding time begins the moment the bottle is capped.

How the lab analyzes it

The lab uses Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) under EPA Method 200.8. The sample is nebulized into an argon plasma at ~6,000-10,000 K, which strips elements to ions; a mass spectrometer then counts each metal ion by mass. Sensitivity reaches parts-per-trillion - far below what taste, smell, or color strips can detect.

Did you know
  • Lead rarely comes from the source water - it usually dissolves from the home's own pipes, solder, and brass fixtures, which is why utility testing can't tell you what comes out of YOUR tap.
  • The EPA's action level for lead is 15 ppb, but the health-based goal is zero.
  • Arsenic in groundwater is largely natural geology, not pollution - which is why two neighbors on different wells can have very different results.
The Sacred Sampling standard

Laboratory data — not estimates.

Independently operated, with no ties to filter or remediation companies. Every sample is analyzed by an accredited partner laboratory under EPA-referenced methods, with a documented chain of custody — and your data is yours.
