Why it matters

Microplastics have been found in human blood, lungs, placenta, and brain tissue. Research is still emerging, but concern centers on inflammation and on the endocrine-disrupting plasticizers the particles carry.

Household dust is a major exposure route, especially for crawling infants and toddlers who ingest dust through hand-to-mouth contact.

How to collect your sample

Collect the dust, water, or surface sample into the provided jar/filter using the scoop and gloves, then seal and return per instructions.

How the lab analyzes it

The sample is filtered, then examined by optical/fluorescence microscopy to count and size particles; FTIR spectroscopy identifies the polymer type of each particle; and LC-MS/MS quantifies plasticizers and bisphenols.
