Odor Analysis Kit

Identify the chemicals behind the smell.

Coming soon
What it tests for
  • Broad VOC spectrum
  • Aldehydes / ketones
  • Organic acids
  • Sulfur compounds (mercaptans, hydrogen sulfide)
  • Amines
Why it matters

Persistent mystery odors can signal real hazards - hydrogen sulfide (sewer gas) is toxic at higher levels, amines and mercaptans can indicate decomposition or gas leaks, and VOC odors can point to solvent or mold-related sources.

Identifying the specific chemicals turns an emotional 'something smells wrong' into an actionable diagnosis for remediation or landlord/insurance disputes.

How to collect your sample

Capture the suspect air on the sorbent tube and/or seal the smelly material in the headspace jar, following instructions, then return.

How the lab analyzes it

GC-MS speciation separates and names the individual odor compounds - sulfur compounds, amines, organic acids, aldehydes, and VOCs - turning a subjective smell into an objective chemical list.

Did you know
  • The human nose can detect some sulfur compounds at parts-per-billion - which is why a tiny source can dominate a room.
  • The 'rotten egg' odorant added to natural gas (a mercaptan) is detectable far below dangerous concentrations by design.
The Sacred Sampling standard

Laboratory data — not estimates.

Independently operated, with no ties to filter or remediation companies. Every sample is analyzed by an accredited partner laboratory under EPA-referenced methods, with a documented chain of custody — and your data is yours.
