PCB Screening Kit

PCBs were banned in the U.S. in 1979 but remain in pre-1980 caulk, sealants, paints, and old electrical equipment. They are persistent, bioaccumulative, and probable human carcinogens, and also affect the immune, reproductive, and nervous systems.

During renovation of older buildings (including many schools), disturbed PCB-laden caulk can contaminate dust and soil - making pre-demolition testing important.

Cut a small piece of the suspect caulk, sealant, or other legacy material into the jar using gloves, apply the tamper-evident seal, and return.

GC-MS under EPA Method 8082 identifies and quantifies PCB Aroclor mixtures and individual congeners in the material.
