PFAS in Materials Kit

Test the material - not just the water it touched.

What it tests for
  • PFOS
  • PFOA
  • PFHxS
  • PFBS
  • Total Organic Fluorine (TOF) screen (optional)
Why it matters

PFAS are deliberately added to carpets, upholstery, water-repellent fabrics, food packaging, and firefighting foam for stain and water resistance. These treated materials are a direct contact and household-dust exposure source.

Health concerns mirror the water PFAS kit: cancer, thyroid disruption, immune effects, and developmental harm - with the advantage here of pinpointing the actual item responsible.

How to collect your sample

Cut or place a representative piece of the material into the provided jar using gloves, seal in the secondary container, and return.

How the lab analyzes it

The material is solvent-extracted and analyzed by LC-MS/MS to parts-per-trillion - the same forever-chemical detection used for water, applied to the source material.

Did you know
  • Stain-resistant and 'waterproof' treatments are among the most common intentional PFAS uses in the home.
  • A Total Organic Fluorine screen can flag PFAS presence even when specific compounds aren't individually identified.
The Sacred Sampling standard

Laboratory data — not estimates.

Independently operated, with no ties to filter or remediation companies. Every sample is analyzed by an accredited partner laboratory under EPA-referenced methods, with a documented chain of custody — and your data is yours.
